Hi, I have got a 2007 Mercedes sprinter. It's got an automatic gearbox and it's been modified so I can drive from my wheelchair. I've got a little toggle switch that operates the parking brake. To be honest, it's not something I normally use. However, I've just had some work carried out on the vehicle and the person who bought the vehicle back but the parking brake on. It's been a few weeks since I've been out in the vehicle. Anyway, I went to go out today and I can't release the parking brake. It's making a noise when I try and release it but it's not the continuous whirring noise like you would normally get. I don't know what has happened. If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

Probably rusted on… if you have space, stick the van in reverse and see if they will free up. Be aware it normally happens with a bit of a bang and one wheel can also skid a bit first.
Once you‘ve got it off they really could do with stripping down and cleaning up.

Thanks, no, I haven't got any space behind the vehicle or in front of that to carry out that kind of menubar. However, I suppose somebody could always jack the vehicle up and try. I don't know, I'm going to have to get recovery out and see what they can do. I can't even take the vehicle anywhere because it won't move.

Why do 'others' insist on applying hand/parking brakes on peoples' cars? If it wasn't on when they collected it then leave the bl00dy thing off again.

Yes, it's a while now but you wonder why the person who bought it back after the work wouldn't nip back ?
