Was told today that it doesn't harm your parking brake if you activate it from time to time while driving at slow speed, he said it makes it work better ! any truth in this or am i being wound up.

Cast iron will rust just through being in the open air, when I am driving along if my parking brake is seldom used, then I apply it lightly when driving just to clean it up, just for a few seconds a few times a year

Hi Dave ---not a wind up at all--it cleans off the shoes and gives a better grip-always a goog idea after having new pads fitted ( Handbrake shoes on most mercedes are independant of the rear brake pads-so I assume yours will be)

I agree with Malcolm, sometimes just apply the handbrake whilst slowing down to clean the rust away, worth doing as the handbrake test at MOT could be a fail.
