Hi All,

Appreciate some guidance on retrofit parking sensors for a Mercedes B class.

My wife is picking up a 1yr old B class from Mercedes Direct this weekend and we are trying to find a good installer to fit front and rear parking sensors in the West London/Middlesex area.

Have done a search of forum and losts of good info on self fit kits, but I do not trust myself doing anything technical.

Guidance on installers and prices, would be much appreciated, as have no desire to pay the Mercedes Direct Price of £499 per bumper.

Thanx in Advance

Raj

This probaly is not a great help but, I recently had A Full Factory Mecedes parktonic system retro fitted by an independant. I had investigated various options beforehand, the Quickparc system mercedes offer, and two ofter independant sourced. Within the retro fits, they all, without exception, looked like bolt on extras to me, and not part of the original car, I personally felt they were detrimental to the look of the veichle, all were cheaper than the option I chose, so I surpose its personnal choice, in your place I would be sticking with MB, albeit, I thought Quickparc was cheaper than yo stated, but I may be wrong. Be intrested to how you get along when you have had it done.

Try this thread which gives a very satisfied customer of one supply and fit firm.

In addition there is a man called Alfie, who is a member, and who fits lots of things and gets high marks from people I've met or read. He is in the thread somewhere. I think Malcolm may know more.

Proper MB ones would be nice . I have them in my E and they are nice as obviously the displays etc are all designed for the car, but they will be pricey.
As an alternative, have a look at this

May be food for thought.
Failing that, open the yellow pages and look for car stereo and phone fitters. Most will also do parking sensors. There is a vast range of after market kits out there so you need to decide what you like and what you're willing to pay.

If the standard MB kit is the same for the B class as our A class you might be better off with a non MB aftermarket set. The MB ones do not pick up high kerbs but let you graunch your bumpers on them and the proximity claxon sounds about one nanosecond before contact with higher obstructions

Even my S class sensors don't pick up high kerbs.
Lots of visible warnings you are getting close, closer, closer still before the beeper goes off to say impact is nigh.

That's true of most parking sensors. It would be good if they could tune the range and reaction speed to the vehicle's speed rather than just it's proximity.
Mine work great if I bear 2 things in mind. Firstly it's designed for crawling pace. Fine if you know something is there and are using it to judge the distance (or are unsure and are being cautious) but it won't normally help if you think everything is clear and are letting it roll. Secondly, on the constant tone and full red lights, you've still got 2-3" left.
Work within those factors and it can make a skilled parker from the least spacially aware.
