My Parktronic has the dreaded failure lights, though no audio alarm aft first start of the day, but the system works fine after the drive-away reset and on subsequent starts.....

I am thinking weak battery doesn't enable the system to come on-line properly, which recovers almost immediately...your thoughts?

Cheers

I don't think the PDC is known to be a particularly heavy electrical consumer.

Have the sensors been wet (rain/dew) in the morning?

As above an odd one to get the parking sensor failing on first start, not heard of it before, it could be worth measuring the battery voltage before and during the first start

You could also try leaving it a minute or so after startup before selecting a gear.

That way the charging system has chance to recover the voltage a little prior to the activation of the PDC system.

FWIW, I had this trouble for almost 2 years with the 204; checked by garage at least 3 times but at a loss to understand why. Eventually one of their men dug out a factory memo that said that replacing the centre indicator, i.e. the one with the 5 lights each side, might cure the problem even though the system had no codes showing. Fortunately the car was still under warranty, but replacing the unit on the dash cured it, although by that time I had contact MB customer Services who agreed to extent the warranty until they found the fault.
