Anyone had a Parrot handsfree phone kit (the dinky CK3000 Evolution) installed in their Merc ? Does it connect without too much bother to the bog-standard Audio 20 unit ? And are the wires visible ?

I noticed that Halfords were doing them fully fitted for £100 a few months back, and wondered if they were competant to start pulling out the Audio 20 unit without damaging everthing ?

I have the 3100 fitted in my van (non Merc) it is a great bit of kit and has been very reliable.
I had it fitted by a local expert for about £160.

No offence to Halfords but I would rather use a local ICE expert to fit it, not that it is probably too hard just that I don't think you can beat experience when it comes to stripping bits out of a car.

Installing any of the Parrot kits is easier than driving a tram.

Once the radio is removed, the wiring simply plugs in line with the radio power/ speaker connectors.

Apart from that, the only other requirement is to site and fix a microphone.

Mine's a C-class 2004 (post-May 2004 facelift). Will this have the right version of the Audio 20 to allow connection (?), and where do the wires to the Parrot unit get hidden (?).

I've got the Audio 20 fitting-kit with ISO wiring/connectors for the Parrot if you want them. I fitted a P3100 to my W211 a few months back but cannot use this kit as i've got Comand (Fibre optics!!). Drop me a private message and I'll dig it out and sent it to you if you go this route FOC.

I used AVR...they seem to be experts in Parrot kits. Around £189 fitted. Great job done on mine

I have just fitted a 3000 kit in a SLK 170 body. No prior knowledge and it took 20 mins. ISO in the back of the radio, swap the red and orange. Poke the wires across the car and took the mic up to the visor. Bobs your...

I recommend to anyone. Crystal clear.

Carphone warehouse have fitted for £80 at the mo, but as before, do you really want them over your car?

A post 04 C class should be fine. Pre 04 211s had the same fibre optic Audio gateway setup as Waggers has on his command - hence my Dad couldn't connect his. Post 04 they did away with it on the Audio 20 though it's still used on the Audio50/command setups.

Just fitted a Parrot CK3100 to my 97 W210 with APS 30 radio. Its a great piece of equipment, and took about 2 hours to fit, but the instruction manual is lousy. These tips might help others:
- the mute pin for the APS 30 is Pin 3
- you need to swap the red and orange cables (by unscrewing at the fuses) otherwise the Parrot loses its settings each time you switch off the engine and drops the call if your using the phone. It should flash a "Goodbye" message when you turn off the ignition.
