Passed my MOT and saved myself £400

Just wanted to share I passed with flying colours and just to encourage people to do those small repairs themselves. This is a great site for information and without it I may not have even tried. Also how did we ever live before youtube! ..lol.

Now just have to find a garage for servicing.

I went to a council garage in Hounslow for my MOT, they found nothing wrong with the car and no recommendations. They have no vested interest in finding problems as they dont fix private cars only council vehicles like Ambulances. Cant recommend them enough, they were cheerful and very helpful. It cost £54.

I use the council workshop where i work. They do work for private customers but cannot advertise

I always take my car to gills transport in four ashes (i now live in Cov) as they just MOT and are honest and at least i know i anything is wrong it is genuine. They charge £40 for MOT with free retest. Im taking the W204 this sat morning

Yes it is very satisfying to fix things yourself and save money. May I ask what you did to save £400?

yes that's great. I use to use Berkley Arms mot station at Cranford when I lived that way as they don't do repairs either so no axe to grind.

partial snake oil. Council run MOT stations may have no vested interest in repairs but still have the same pass/fail guidelines as every other decent MOT station. My local MOT also do servicing but have not seen fit to fail my car for any MOT faults in the last 5 years. They also only charge £35 for the privilege

I want my car right and if something is marginal I would prefer to sort it out asap.

I normally pay a max of £30 at my local mot, just recently bought one off a local groupon for £15.....

The £54 as I pointed out to my merc main dealer is the maximum price that can be charged, a testing station can charge what they want.

Find a modern MOT station, mine has shaker plates on the ramp so they can shake the wheels whilst checking under the car for joint issues.
