Hi,

2000 W210 E320CDI estate, 155k-odd miles. Just recently, the passenger door mirror has started being reluctant to extend after being folded in. It's quick enough to fold in and, if you apply gentle hand pressure when pressing the button, it'll extend quite happily. Cause? Solution?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Regards,

Hi,
Do your mirrors have indicators fitted in them? (face-lift version) as i believe it was,nt uncommon for the folding mirror motor to fail, in the wiring from the folding motor to the plug there is a suppressor in one of the cables this fragile to say the least but yours must be intact but it could be a dirty connection in one or both of the cables, check this first but failling that i would be getting a new folding motor.
I have the same mirrors fitted to my C43 and I will removing one of mine to fix a folding mirror fault in next few weeks, if you like i can take some pics to show how its done, let me know by posting back on this thread.

That is the common reason for failure of these mirrors i agree but the OP's mirror cannot be seized as it folds in OK.

I still think a good dose of PTFE around the fulcrum would fix it

Mine folded in OK but sometimes needed a nudge to help it fold out.
Copious amounts of spray lubricant behind the mirror glass cured it.

Mine's similar - very slow to fold either way. I cannot see where to squirt lubricant. Does it need to be dismantled to lubricate it properly? I don't really want to just spray willy-nilly.

Ideally you would slide off the cover, what is the car

Hi Malcolm,

It's a 1999 W210 E300TD. When folded I can see a spindle at the bottom but that's about it. I can't see anything that looks remotely like it needs lubricating. I'm not sure where to start if I try to dismantle it.
TIA

I think that if you hand fold it in you can see the pins that the mirror swivels on in the rear edge, one top and one bottom, they are the places to spray.

I can send you the remove cover instructions
