Re CLK locked in Park

My dealer has a report from Mercedes, which identifies two problem areas. One is via brake indication, the second is "gates ?" on lever.

They are getting the parts, because the problem is getting worse.

Thanks for your help.

Your Mercedes
A diesel
Sounds like a slack Bowden cable mechanism.

This is a cable that runs from the ignition lock to the brake pedal and then to the gearbox Park interlock.

You cannot release the Park mode until the ignition is on and the brake pedal depressed, and conversely you cannot select park until the brake and ignition are on.

Try pressing the brake pedal harder next time it happens.

Before it is fixed use the parking brake and not Park.

Dieselman, thanks for your reply.

You may not have seen my original message date 31st Dec 2002.

No success with pressing hard on the brake pedal.

Cannot use the parking brake because the ignition key cannot be removed unless in Park.

Very much appreciate your information.
