I don't think so,its when pulling out of junctions 'sharpish' for example, put your foot down and there's a momentary pause before any action, reading up,its a delay in the electronic throttle.

If you mash the pedal down do you still get the same delay?

No as the pedal boxes actually make the opening quicker .

If mashing the throttle gives the same delay then a pedal box won't help.

Essentially all a pedal box does is change the shape of the pedal response curve at the pedal. Therefore if nothing you do when driving gets rid of the delay the pedal is not the cause and any delay is within the ECU.

I'm not talking a long delay by any means, and it's not often its mashed into the floor, its just not instant response like a petrol.
Reading up on these boxes, they're supposed to eliminate a lot of the delay between pedal position and throttle opening .

This sort of thing.

It can't fix a delay that's built into the ECU.
That's why I asked if there is a delay if you mash the pedal down. If yes it won't fix it. If no then it may help.
All an external box can do is alter the response curve making the throttle move further in the initial pedal travel.

Electronic snake oil?
Not quite...
All it does is make the throttle more sensitive giving the impression the engine is more responsive.
Back in the day we used to achieve the same effect by changing the carburettor linkages. That never cured any flat spot off idle either...

Ordered one, they get good reviews on BMW and Audi/VAG forums,if it doesn't work I'll send it back.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think I theres anything amiss with the car, certainly not showing any fault codes, and pulling away normally it is as smooth as you would want.

Only other thought is of 500 odd ftlb torque is giving the esp a headache.....

Crispian, where do you get "500 odd ftlb torque" from an ML280?
That's a ****** successful remap if it's true......and if so, I want one!

that lag from stationary is not just an ML thing, I have the same on my 08 C220, first noticed it on the test drive 7 years ago before buying the car, no explanation from the salesman, I've learnt to live with it. Changing from C to S mode seems to help a little, as does a fairly heavy right foot, but it's a foible I've learnt to work around as the rest of the car is fantastic and we intend to keep it for many more years.

All a pedal box does is change the % throttle position reading sent to the ECU. So has the same effect as just being more aggressive with your foot movements. Basically by the time you have reached 80% pedal movement you are sending a 100% signal to the ECU.

Played around with a few of them years ago and they do exactly that. You can negate them completely through driving style, or alternatively they can make it feel more sporty by having to move your foot less for the same effect. Either method gives the same result and power outputs.

Amusingly the best use we found for them was for cruising in higher revving cars. It meant you used less throttle position for the same revs making it a more comfortable foot position.

For £500 I would take it to GAD Tuning and have them map it and rescale the throttle pedal, at least you would get a small increase in power and Torque for your money and probably some change

It's already been mapped at msl.

Aye, the lag in my 08 c220 is not from the throttle but from the 5g box which is very smooth but slow to engage drive.

throttle (transmission) response is usually improved with mapping, if map built properly...
