Hi there I have a 2019 CLS and I am losing the lacquer off the bonnet. The original location was a stone chip but I have since noticed that i have spots in several places on the bonnet , the 2 wings have a couple of small specs and the there is one on the front bumper (fender).
Is there a known problem that MB need to deal with? This doesn't feel like a random event. It looks more like there is a defective bond between the Lacquer and the paint surface given the number of spots.
Any help/advice would be welcomed

What colour is it? If it's Fire Opal Red there are many posts on this issue on all MB forums.

Fire Opal red isn't an option (fortunately) on a 2019 model.
It's now Hyacinth Red which has no issues.

Do you have a Mercedes warranty?
It may be worth checking the small print to see if the clear coat is covered under warranty.
If not, and if you bought the car from your main dealer, maybe a word with the sales team regarding the issue may get some positive response. I have my doubts though. I have a feeling you'll be turned down for any assistance from Mercedes.

The problem is, losing the lacquer is easily done using a pressure washer too close to the car, and Mercedes could just say that's what has happened.
I had it happen the one and only time I used a car wash and the operator was too enthusiastic with the pressure washer. Didn't notice it immediately but it was the only explanation.

The reason Fire Opal Red was mentioned is Mercedes recognised there was a big problem and have been respraying cars with paint bubbling issues for a long time. Unfortunately, thats the only colour. (that I know of).

OP have you owned the car from new. If not had it been sprayed in the past.

The car was bought from a main dealer. I went back to them and got nowhere as you predicted.
I was hoping it was a global issue in the community and that head office were being pressurised. I guess not? :(

I would guess it may have been sprayed in the past - which would be the escape for the dealer.
Its not uncommon and sadly reveals years after owning the car.
Best bet now is a good body shop to get it sorted.

Mercedes call that Graphite Grey Pearl.
Not heard of that one before, only palladium, tenorite and selenium for gloss paintwork.
