..but he did mention Yellow Stuff pads not being suitable as they had no bite when cold...

True . . .

But the point I tried to make was that I can't really see why "standard" brakes are inadequate on public roads if you you use your gears.

Ed: But everyone's free to use whatever brakes they want.

The proper pads from mercedes are excellent and I have been known to drive progressively.

All modern cars have the ability to lock there wheels up, decent tyres, MB discs and pads are fine. Using non OEM pads is a passport to damaged discs etc and poor performance. You can upgrade to OE drilled disks to help with heat build up. Fit good quality tyres

Standard OE brakes are fine for all normal driving, and it would take quite a bit of successive hard braking to get any fade, we do not have roads as in some countries like long mountain passes.

I only ever went over to EBC green to start with as the wheels on my V70r are very open and looked horrible after a few miles. The red ceramic came out at the time I bought my 129 SL and I tried the red. the difference over standard OE pads was quite staggering, the car felt like it wanted to stop, and I over braked till I got used to them.

At the time of me selling my SL 230 the rear disc were original at 55k miles and the fronts at about 35k miles. The front were crazing before I fitted the reds and they just got too bad for comfort.

Using the green on the V70R the fronts went 50k miles. The rear disc split open while parked at Heathrow one Winter and I have only ever had OE pads on the rears.

Brake dust can be easily cleaned off, and if you wax the wheels, very easily. Just saying.

But then if I have a choice between more dust or less dust, it won't be hard to decide . . . ;)

Hi,
Having used after market pads of the red variety, and OEM, I know which ones I will be getting on the front of the AMG. If having OEM means I have to clean my wheels a little more often then so be it, I would rather replace pads only then have to replace the discs as well.

Unless using a car for track days there can be no valid reason to go with any other than OEM IMHO. The vagary in performance of the difference types at road speeds and the longevity aspects put me off completely.

Sadly you are the only one that seems to have had some problem, with me getting more than 50k from the front and 55k from the rears on several cars, in all for my own use some 6 cars with never a disc problem plus 14 that I have done for others and never a problem there either.

But each to his own, I love the bite of the red pads :D and I would never go back to OE pads:D:D

I fitted Pagid discs and EBC reds on the front of my 210 .
I have done about 1500 miles since and I am very impressed
with the stopping performance of these pads.

I do not see that these pads will wear the discs faster than OEM
Pads , as the make up is ceramic , they do not have the small
pieces of metal mixed in with the compound that makes up OEM
pads .

Yes less dust is a bonus , but stopping power is more important.
Everyone has there own opinion , I can comment now as I have
tried them .

What's that old saying , oh yes , " don't knock it till you've tried it "

I did my homework , and read some good reports about these
pads , you Malcolm , have recommended them countless times,
to many people .
So I thought I shall give them a go , if they are not for me
I can easily change them , but they are excellent , they took a
little bit longer than standard pads to bed in , but now they have,
are really good .

When these wear out I might try the Textar E pad , but that could be
a while away yet

Older Citroen Now :-(
whitenemesis is so angry he just deletes every answer

I had noticed that..
Red stuff are superior to OEM..
They certainly do NOT wear out discs as fast as OEM...
Malcolm forget this post now.. What has needed to be said has been said..
Certain individuals are just goading you.... AGAIN !!

Really disappointed by you Simon.

Each has their own opinion, nothing wrong there. What is wrong is when someone believes their opinion is superior to others.
State what one believes and leave it at that, don't continue posting, trying to denegrate another's view.

Don't agree with my view on pads? Fair enough but don't start getting personal. I accept your preference as I accept others.
Some seem to expect their view to be the correct and only acceptable, not so ....

2005 CL500.
What I find amusing/peculiar is that the op posted a thread, then logged ooff 1 minute later...and hasn't reappeared more than two days later. I think he was a troll.

He certainly pushed the right buttons.
