Hi,

I have a 2000 R129 SL280 but I was wondering if anyone knows the technical specification of the car or where I can get this information e.g. 0-60mph etc.

At times the car feels sluggish. It only has 51,000 miles.

Thanks

OK here goes.

280 goes 0-60 in 9.8 sec, combined fuel consumption 25
320 ------------8.4---------------------------------24.6
500 ------------6.5---------------------------------22.6
600 ------------6.1---------------------------------18.2

This is a heavy car for the small engine but is still quite good

Thanks.

Any ideas why the car might be sluggish at times? It happens sometimes when I press the accelarator pedal fully down it doesn't have an instant response and gradually picks up speed. Other times the power kicks in pretty much instantly.

They have never been fast the 280 and some say they are underpowered.

It could be many things. Get someone who knows them well to drive it and advise.

Sounds like you're not always getting kickdown, or it could be that you are already in the most appropriate gear so the gearbox doesn't need to change.

You could check your actual 0-60 against the official figures, though you may need to stall the converter against the footbrake to match them. Obvoiusly, these guys that work for Autocar and the like don't have to pay for exploded gearboxes....

Any lusting after more go will cost you money......

The car may be in limp home mode - can you reach the red line whilst driving ?

Perhaps get the codes read, would be the best step to determine whether any sensors gone out of spec.

a 280 has a 0-60 of 9.8sec? thats what the handbook claims for a manual c220 cdi! and mine supposedly is 8.9 sec? surely a 280 is quicker than mine?

I have not looked up the figures, but it is all about power to weight ratio.

That 129 car is very heavy compared to yours. Open cars have all that extra metal underneath to strengthen the chassis to stop body flex on rough roads.

The 124 saloons with the straight six 280 engines are significantly faster than 129 sports.
