Does anyone know if it is possible for the cluster illumination to be consistently on when the ignition is on? I find it hard to read when you drive under trees or even if its just cloudy. My Company Mondeo had this and it made quick glance reading the dash much easier.

Have you tried twiddling the reset knob to the left of the cluster? This also sets the cluster illumination level. It may have been inadvertently turned right down.

Drive with your sidelights on, that will not only light up your dash but make it easier for others to notice you on the road.

Thanks for the Replies, driving round having to turn the side lights on and off will be a pita, even with the lights set to constant the dash illumination only kicks in when its dark. Looks like i will have to live with it!

Did you try adjusting the light level as I described?

Cluster illumination is set to maximum. And only illuminates when the lights are on.

Is it that you cannot see the multifunction display or the main dials? On my 203 (facelift 2005, so slightly different to yours?) the MFD was on with the IGN but quite dim in bright sunlight but if I turned up the illumination I was almost blinded come darkness!

Mine is a facelift, part of the problem with the dim info display is the blue tinted glass. If I put the drivers window down it gets brighter. What I was after though is constant backlighting of the dials, but if its not programmable then I will just live with it :)

I wonder if there is a light sensor fault in this case

How about setting the headlights to constant in the cluster menu? Would that also set the dash illumination to constantly on?

Dash illumination is then controlled by the light sensor, all constant seems to do is turn on all external lights.

TV, I'm guessing the blue glass filters the uv rays that the sensor works on. If I drop the drivers window it goes to full brightness. And if I go under trees it dims - and if its covered enough the lights come on. As far as I can see all light sensors are doing there job correctly. If only I had access to star to have a good fiddle :)
