Hi All,

I have a 55 reg SL 350, i was having it washed and the guy somehow managed to do something to my petrol filler door. All the doors were open and i just found him trying repeatedly to close it.

The only way I can get it to close is by physically holding it shut then pressing the fob. Then when you open the central locking the door pops open. Ive tried opening the door with the key which is fine but as soon as I start the engine it opens.

Any help would be fantastic thanks, Aaron

Yes it has a flip flop action, the catch could be broken so that it only stays closed when locked.

Thanks for making me think better ;)

He may have bent the locking tab or dislodged the spring that keeps it shut

There is nothing to bend, its all solid plastic, the catch is in the bottom of a hole, I can look at mine in the morning

It'll be the latch that has failed, small plastic thing available seperately. Changed mine 2months ago. Not expensive.

I have looked on the EPC but all one lump on the 230, do you have to remove the whole thing to fit it.

I beg to differ, fitted one and it was seperate. Part no. 2306390007 possibly £10.10 +vat. It can be fitted by moving carpet.

I thank you for the information and I was not arguing at all, I just could not find it on the EPC, and I still cant, thank you.

Thanks all, I shall look at that part number when I get home. You're right about the latch I'm sure. I have no idea how you'd get to this by simply moving carpet though?

It is the side panel where the filler cap is, you may have to remove the load cover to get enough room, I have the details for both that I can send you

Any more info on this guys?
I cannot see how to remove the unit (if that is what I have to do) in order to inspect and/or refit or replace the "latch"
