petrol inside my c280 chachoal canister

can something help me- electrical shortcircuit caused my car's (c280 automatic)aircon and parts of my dashboard to burn; the burns extended to the lower part of the car i.e. where we have the heat insulating meterial that prevents heat coming from the gearbox etc. from sipping into the interior of the car. the kickdown cable was affected, but fortunately evrything has been restored within one month;just a day of using the car i saw petrol coming out of the chacoal canister which i've been told shouldn't happen. the cainster was cleaned and fixed back; the mechanic advised me to try using the car without the tank cover so that the pressure of the gas does not send petrol to the canister. now what happened when put 40lts into the car, is the comes out from the tank. please tell me what's happening to my car.
