I had a leaky fuel tank in my 230TE.

Is this a common fault?

I've got a 230TE '88 with a fuel tank neck that's rusted, but not leaking (yet...), a 200TE '92 with a leaky tank, and a replacement tank which also leaks... (Doh). Anyone got ideas how to fix leaky tank cheaply? Don't fancy DIY welding... Is chemical metal any good?

Yes an easy job but you have to take the tank off.

"The Complete automoblist" in Huntingdon Cambs sell an USA petrol tank pin hole sealer made for rusty tanks, I have used it on my 1928 Rolls Royce and it was ok for the 17 years that I had the car. It lines the inside of the tank with plastic.

Major cause of leaky (and partially collapsed) fuel tanks is insufficient ventilation through the charcoal canister/s.

Because the canister/s is placed inside front n/s wing out of sight, they hardly get changed at the recommended service interval.

Change at once, along with with any collapsed vent hoses to/from canister.

Cost approx £45
