Has anyone anyone ever used Petronis 10-40 (not sure if it is fully syn), or Triple QX 10-40 fully synthetic in their engines. Any views or opinions on either?

ECP 25% discount and the free oil filter offer is on again.

I was thinking of buying a container for top ups... for less than £20...plus a free filter !!

I have tried Triple QX oil in my W203 this time. It claims to be mb229.51, which is way above what mine needs. It cost about £20 when their 30% oil offer was on.

I have also put it in my wife's VW.

I have no opinion on it, it just seems like any other oil. There is no way of telling if it is good or bad (unless both engines blow up!).

I now use Petronas here in the workshop, moved over from Mobil 1 and I have to say its excellent oil. The 10w40 you are putting in is semi synthetic but is a better quality oil than the equivalent Mobil Super/Syntec oil I used to get.

Petronas is now the factory fill oil and the new spec MB229.52 is only available in Petronas brand at the moment.

I just had my car serviced yesterday at Wayne Gates and I supplied Petronas Syntium 5000 fully synth. Though I would give it a try, having previously used Mobil1 and Shell Helix.

Good to hear.

Regarding 229.52 as well as Petronas FUCHS and Mobil1 have MB229.52 oils now too.

Steve which 5w-30 Petronas Syntium fully synth oil do you use as they have a couple that are MB229.51 or are you using Syntium 7000 which is MB229.52?

Thanks.

I can't see PETRONAS 1000 10w40 semisynthetic meeting MB 229.51 by any stretch of the imagination. Sorry I don' t think that quoted spec on the advert is correct. Either its a really a better oil than that the one quoted or its overspecced in the advert for what it really is. It is also only 4 litres as opposed to the triple QX which is 5 litres? While a 10w40 semi-synthetic is fine for your age of engine I would reckon a 5w40 fully synthetic is a better oil for little more expenditure.

But I think that spec is for diesels, mine is petrol.

The cheaper Triple QX fully synthetic I think reads as MB 229.3. Is that within spec?

It doesnt matter whether the car is diesel or petrol MB229.51 is fine for both.

Dont see anyone that has said to use Syntium 1000 or posted a link to it. Syntium 3000 is MB229.5.

When the OPs car was new there wouldnt have even been a MB229.5 spec so the Syntium 1000 MB229.1 spec may be fine for his car.

ECP website no longer offering the free oil filter, but the discount has changed from 25 to 30% on most engine oils.. Not as good an offer as the free filter. I was too slow.

They are so inconsistant with their offers.

I see the original link/advert I commented on has been removed. ;) I did not say that a 10w40 semisynthetic oil wasn't suitable for the OP's car I said the advert which stated a 10w40 semisynthetic pictured though not stated as PETRONAS 1000 in the advert met MB229.51 was incorrect. I stand by my assertion that a 5W40 synthetic oil such as the standard Petronas 3000 meeting MB229.5 [although not necessary ] would offer advantages such as extended service intervals for the OP. Specifying a low SAPS oil such as Petronas 3000 AV which meets 229.31/229.51 on a Petrol v6 would on the other hand be an unnecessary expense.
