I was just looking thru posts for information on remote keyfobs(mine is dead on my '98 300TD) and came across post on alarms activating for no reason.
I had this problem while actually driving down the street,in my '88 420 SE ,very embarrassing. Only by stuffing a rag into the siren horn could i silence it enough to drive home.
After contacting an alarm specialist he suggested i take out and clean all the fuses as after a while the contacts start to get dirty any the system picks up the slightest electrical interruption and sets the alarm off.
As this would be a good idea anway it seems a small job worth doing to prevent the problem before it occurs. I did not see this remedy suggested anywhere and it is a lot cheaper than new sensors which seems to be the first solution.
In fact a whole new set of fuses is not going to break the bank every couple of years
