Hi All

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I removed my old MCC-1 cradle for the nokia 6310, removed cables and speaker from head unit (found behind ashtray beneath Aircon/Radio) there was an extra cable for mic by the looks of it that didn't run to the MCC-1.

Anyway ran the CARK-91 cable from head unit out to new cradle, hooked all up fine (I fear I made an error here) replaced all the necessary bits, put phone in cradle, phone shows car symbol, phone buttons don't work on steering wheel, display comes up phone audio but no audio heard (should I have removed the speaker?) and I presume I should have left the mic cable plugged in.

Any help would be appreciated, now off to tend to my torn to shreds fingers.

Errr - some of this makes sense and some doesn't. Firstly unless you have a Merc integrated car kit, the steering wheel buttons won't work. I'm not familiar with the MCC-1 (is that the cradle?) but the CARK91 is a Nokia after market kit.

The audio has to be fed from the CARK-91 control box either to a supplied speaker or else through the car's stereo. I doubt the stereo has an audio input for the phone, but there are after market interface boxes that do the trick so I can't be sure what you have.

The cark91 box also has a single wire output that you connect to the stereo to tell the stereo that the phone is in operation and to mute. I suspect from your description that this is working ok.

The cark91 control box needs (from memory) the following plugged in...
an arial
a Microphone
a speaker
Power plug consisting of constant live, accessory live, earth, switch (mute) wire for the stereo
Lead to the cradle.

If you don't have all of these connected, it isn't going to work.

One thing to add re the CARK91 is that although the connectors do lock into place you should always tape them in as well as they do vibrate free.

Thanks lads, figured as much, kinda broke the cable leading to the speaker, patch up job required, mic cable lying somewhere inside by the head unit.

Nokia speaker

Hi All,

Just about to fit a Nokia CARK91 to my 1999 C180. My audio system has no provision for a phone speaker input.
Any recommendations for the best location to fit the Nokia loudspeaker please, rather than my having to re-invent the wheel.

Many thanks,

John

With this holder the phone mounts on the face and the loudspeaker would go into the side if you cut a hole and just used the faceplate and speaker from the CARK 91, I had one in my last car.

While your at Dashmount you can get the audio cable that plugs into the back of the radio to route the phone through the car speakers.

Malcomn's suggestion is the better one (as usual!). I'd definately go for a proper solid mount as the metal bracket ones tend to flex too much and are a bit agricultural with all the nuts and bolts showing.
As far as the speeaker goes, all mine have been at the top of the passenger footwell, just below the kick panel facing the driver (bolted to the side). The sound is good from there and it's near the control unit which is normally stuffed above the kick panel.

When I got my 129 i had the speaker mounted under where Jberks said ,but on the passenger side,as there was not enough clearence for my feet on that car, and there was no problem with the sound but it was better when fitted to the side of the phone console that I fitted later.

CARK91 speaker

Guys, many thanks for your replies.
The kit is installed except the speaker- I'd already bought the bespoke bracket from Dashmount - thanks Malcolm.
On my CD player (SONY CDX-GT100) there is no provision for any audio inputs on the back of the unit whatsoever.
There is, on the front panel, an aux input 3.5mm socket, which is for plugging in an IPOD or MP3 player.
I've wired up a plug from the CARK91 to feed the speaker output from the phone into the IPOD socket (via a 150 ohm resistor) - this does work OK, but is not a permanant solution, because on an incoming call, the ringer is through the speaker not the phone handset itself. Therefore in order to hear it ringing, the CD player has to be on and switched to AUX - so you can't use the radio or CD.

No room in the drivers footwell to mount the speaker unobtrusively. On previous cars I've mounted it in the passenger footwell but find it difficult to hear.

So still looking for the ideal solution. The Nokia speaker is big ! There are a couple in the Maplin catalogue - will see if these are smaller.

Other ideas appreciated !

John

Did you have to modify the wiring into the back of the Sony radio when you changed it from the MB radio?
If not order the wiring harness from Dashmount and you 'should' be able to hear the phone through the speakers and mute the radio.
