Hi,
My car is a 52plate C270CDI estate. I bought the car with a BURY phone kit fitted that plays through a cheap speaker mounted in the passenger footwell. I'd asked a local car phone specialist company if they could wire it so that the phone played through the existing car speakers, they said yes, supplied a lead and came to do the work. The guy was helpfull but said he was unable to do this because it has a factory fitted Bose amp mounted in the rear quarter for the stereo. Is this true? any comments welcome please.
The speaker has now failed and I'm reluctant to spend £20 on a new one, I'd rather have it through the speakers anyway.

Thanks
regards
Steve

i dont know if this will work through the BURY kit you have but this is exactly what I fitted to my 52 e320 estate with bose amp and a nokia phone control unit. It does state that it is not compatible with a bose amp that has a fibre optic connection though so perhaps that is why you cant do it

Yes thanks for the response. I suspect that the fitter is unable to 'hook into' the fibre optic cable to route sound to the speakers. It looks like I'll have to just buy a replacement speaker at put up with it, ggrrrr.

Thanks Again

The only things that can be added into the fibre loop are other fibre devices.

I saw an SLK recently that had Harman Kardon which works the same way as Bose with a separate amplifier. What the fitter had done was to intercept all the speak wires with a junction box that cut the output to them when a phone call came in/was made. It was very messy but seemed to work. We fitted the correct UHI phone pre-wire and did away with the mess though.

Would the phone rewire be a better option then do you think ?
What sort of cost would it be to retro fit ?

Regards
Steve

The phone pre-wire would be OEM so it would work with the cluster, steering wheel controls and importantly for you, mute the sound correctly on your Bose setup. Cost for a D2B kit (which is what you need if you have Bose as opposed to MOSt kits for Harman Kardon setups) is about £450. Fitting is very straight forward. You would need to add a suitable cradle either a fixed one or a bluetooth one.
