    Hi All,

New member here and planning to get my first Mercedes(life long dream to own a S class).

Happened to find a nice S600 with low miles for a great price and it comes fully loaded with all extras. I had a couple of questions and have exhausted most online searches and forums.

    * when i went to see the car, the 2 front lights were a bit foggy/hazy when compared to others cars of similar age in the dealership parking lot. upon closer inspection i found some residue possibly from condensation on the inside. Upon asking the salesman he says condensation is normal in all Merc cars and that they will not look to replace if the lights work correctly. I am assuming the lights will work correctly but they look ugly with the haze and the residue.
Any feedback on such experiences and can i ask the dealer to replace before i pick the car up under warranty ?

    * Do most of you take the service plan offered as the service costs seem fairly reasonable given the engine this car has ?

    Thanks

Depends how much they quote and how much you could get a good Indy to service and maintain it for

Yep that's the typical car front banter ............. "they're all like that mate"

Take your hard earned dosh elsewhere.

Or, the headlights could be secondhand replacement units if the car has had front end damage.

If you lift the bonnet, you might be able to see paint pen written on the units themselves, describing the units. In which case, again, I would walk away.

However, most headlights can be polished up - its usually the original coatings that deteriorate. There are plenty of kits available to do the job.

Mmm, don't think I would want to pay good money and (probably quite a bit)
On a W222 S600, then have to start fannying about polishing the headlights.
BUT then again if the car is totally immaculate and is the exact spec you want, then just maybe.
Can you get the dealer to do it or pay for it to be done for you.

I have asked for a detailed report
It has an excellent spec to start with.
I get all my cars detailed usually G Techniq CS Black. The interior is pretty bad on the driver's side as it was a chauffeur driven car. owned by a Billionaire. seat belts dirty and lots of dirt around steering wheel etc. a good detail should sort that out. Declined the Star Gaurd protection (total crap and he was still trying to sell saying it has warranty etc)
w.r.t headlights waiting for the mechanical inspection to be complete and waiting for sales guy to come back with an update on the lights. Told him might need them replaced before i collect, ie. if i decide to buy the car that is.

also noticed Dunlops in front and Contis on the rear. Struggling to find Michelins for this car.

Sounds more like condensation to me, a 3 year old car will not have sun damaged headlights

I have the condensation thing on my 2017 E Class, also had it on my previous (2013) one.

It's a known issue, I'm reluctant to call it a problem, and is actually mentioned in the handbook as a perfectly normal thing. It usually disappears after a couple of hours driving.

I'm assuming it's coming from a Mercedes dealership? I'd be reluctant to buy one of these from an independent really, unless it has a decent Mercedes warranty...

As for the service plan, which service is due next? If an A, then pay for that and then take the 3 year plan so you get a B, A & B as opposed from the other way. This is only what I've been told, I personally don't have one as I never tend to keep them long enough...

    Thanks Daveenty.

The service is due now. So they will do that. Need to check if it's A or B.

Also have got quotes from a Indy Merc specialist for the service. So will decide on service plan based on the price they offer.

I am buying from a Mercedes dealership. I guess I am more looking at it from a cosmetic point of view as well as I am sure they wont sell the car with non functioning headlights..

The headlamps are just a nuance that you get used to in all honesty. They certainly won't improve though, if the car's used regularly, they're not too bad. I've just had a look at mine now and they're fine but the howling gale we're experiencing is probably helping with that today. :)

I'm currently doing a lot of homework on S Class Mercedes as I may be looking at one in the not too distant future but still not decided on the 2 door or 4 door model. It will be a V12 though if I decide to buy. I may end up keeping the E Class for a bit longer yet though as I quite like the way that the 4Matic puts the power down.

Lots of w222 have condensation in them, and they do tend to dissipate when driven etc, if its exccessive then I would walk away, as you say.
