Playing MP3 files in DVD player W211 E-Class Comand NTG1/2

Hi - not a problem as such, but hopefully some tips and advice that may help others.

I've been having problems getting the DVD player in my Comand to recognise DVD data discs containing MP3 files. I made a disc about three years ago and it worked fine, but recently I made a new one and it wouldn't work. I tried several times to get it working but kept getting an error message - DVD Error. The 6-CD Autochanger won't read MP3 files, but the DVD player will. I fixed the problem eventually and here's how and a few tips:

• Use good quality DVDs (Sony, TDK, Phillips etc)
• DVD+R discs won't work in my unit - DVD-R discs will
• Only have one folder level on the DVD - Comand won't access sub-folders (ie. one folder per artist etc)
• No more than 90 files in a folder
• Select the DVD Data Disc option in your writing software
• Write the DVD as slow as your software will allow - I reduced mine to 8x speed instead of 48x.
• If it doesn't load in Comand first time, eject it and try it several times.

Im suprised the 6 cd wont play mp3. Mine did in a 04 e320. Burnt using nero on normal cdr. Never tried a dvd cos thats like a months worth of music.

Ummmm, I was told they won't play in the CD changer so I never tried. Watch this space!

UPDATE:

CD autochanger won't play MP3 CDs. Just tried it - shows error message (CD ERROR).

I found I could play my MP3 80 minute CD's in the 6 disc player provided they had been burned using Windows Media Player.
Using Nero or VCL media player to burn them and they got the error message.
I never used DVD's for burning music onto as the CD will play in the DVD slot as well as in the 6 disc compartment.

All in a 2004 W211 with NTG 1

I burnt the CD with Nero, so I'll try Media Player. I use DVDs for the MP3s as I can get half my digital music collection on one disc.

UPDATE - SUCCESS !!!!!

Today I tried something different. In Nero Express there is an option to make a 'Jukebox Audio DVD'. I loaded 4.5gb of MP3 files in artist-related folders to a DVD-R disc and it worked in my Comand NTG1 perfectly. In Comand, it loaded in seconds and went straight to the first file and began playing. The folders were sorted in the correct (alphabetical) order for the first time in a long time. Fabulous.
