I have been told that any fault with my cylinder 4 and 02 sensor should manifest itself by the check engine light appearing???

My check engine/engine fault light has never ever come on despite having this fault for over a year now, what does that indicate???

Please don't gang up on me, this is a serious question. Scotty Kilmer from youtube told me this. I am not being Forest Gump.

Does the EML come on when you turn the ignition key to position 2 ? And then go out a few seconds after the car starts ?

No it doesn't Howard. That's what has puzzled me after watching Scotty Kilmer's video. He is adamant that a warning light should come on with a P0301 fault.

Have you had a STAR diagnosis along with the fault codes to prove those faults?
Ever wondered if your EML might be faulty if it's never been on?

Good point AMGeed. I have had the car on 3 different diagnostic machines. I am not sure if any of these 3 were STAR. However one of these garages was a MB indie so I assume they would use STAR?

And I doubt the EML light doesn't work as they all flash up when I put the key in the ignition, all these lights turn off when I start the engine though.

Have you tried swapping the coilpack/sparkplug with another cylinder? or does your car have a dizzy and HT leads, in which case have you changed HT leads, rotor and sparkplugs for new? carried out a compression test?

or has all this ground been covered before?

Hi 2 new coil packs, new set of HT leads and set of spark plugs yet the misfire keeps occurring, however if I turn my engine off and back on then the misfire has gone with the ignition being switched off.

I simply cannot fathom nor explain it unfortunately.

I am going to make a video tomorrow on my day off from work and post it onto youtube or this website I promise. I have been trying to learn mechanics but these cars are so damn technical that any kind of DIY is severely restricted :(

I think the first thing you have to do is stop watching videos of Scotty Kilmer on you tube.
Are your plugs all sooted up and oily..as for the check engine light coming on with a P0301 engine fault..does your car show a P0301 fault code..
Take your car along to a tried and trusted MB mechanic who will find and sort out your fault.

If the fault can right itself its more like an intermittent connection in the engine ECU, a coil cannot be good one day and not the next, the same goes for most of it.

I have a faulty O2 sensor and I have NO EML light..
My first CLK had a faulty O2 sensor and it too showed no EML light !!

I only know about the fault through the code reader I attached when I first got the cars..
I cleared the faults, drove it and re checked.. The faults were back..

My brother has had a new O2 sensor and the fault is gone and hasnt re appeared..
I tried to have a new O2 sensor but ECP sold me the wrong one!
I will get around to it before long..

It seems to me there will be a lot of cars out there with faulty )2 sensors with the owners oblivious..

So... Knackered O2 sensor does NOT throw up an EML light but does show a hidden code readable by STAR or a Reader.

Some fault codes do clear themselves.

For instance an R230 SL can throw up an ESP error on the dashboard, driving the car a short distance often cures this.

Hi,
It could be it was never had a working EML light, my C43 never did though it had the window in the dash for the light, it was never activated for the euro market on the 43. This was born out by looking at the back of the cluster, and by what Olly at PCS said, he also has a newer 43 than mine and his did,nt have one either.
Your car being older than mine and possibly with the earlier electrics as you have the inline six engine I would say that you have never had one.
It was like mine only activated for markets where the emission standards were higher, or there were additional emission cleaning bits. Hence why the US car the same years as ours might have a working EML light and hence why the cluster on our cars has the facility to have one.

Going by what he has said and others is, either no bulb fitted or this engine does not have one

I have just read through this thread the O-P said all the lights come on when he turns the key in the ignition and then go out so it must have a lamp/ bulb in or have I missed something :confused:
