The south already pay more tax per head than anywhere else in the Uk. What with the higher earnings , higher house prices, inheritance tax etc, we've been propping up the North and Scotland for years already!

I'll explain a little;

The south of England is where there are bar far the most houses above the higher stamp duty thresholds. 4% on houses over £500,000. The South is also where the government generates massive revenue from inheritance taxation as guess where the most estates are that have more than the threshold? The south. With the average one bed flat costing upwards of £160,000 in this area, its not too difficult to see that many many households will fall into the inheritance tax net!

The south of England also has by far the greatest proportion of the higher rate tax payers. We pay 40% tax on most of our income. The south of England is also where the council taxation is highest.

So the government generates most of their revenue from the south. Where does this money go? It goes into rejuvenation schemes in the North. It goes on subsidising the social services and local services in the North, particularly Scotland where the south has to subsidise the refuse collection for the highlands etc.

So the country is ruled by a government voted in by the North so the south can pick up the tab. Not for much longer hopefully if the opinion polls are to be believed. Roll on the day the stealth taxation regime is booted out.

Alfie, could you be a bit more patronising, this North/South thing has been done to death in previous and quite recent threads and is getting extremely boring.
As far as I can see your post has nothing to do with this thread but is only your way of telling us spongers living north of Watford how much you resent paying for our luxurious lifestyle.

Hope you all still signed the petition though!!!
We only do about 6K a year private but i tend to do about 50-60K business miles so will be hammered.
We already pay an absolute fortune for sub-standard roads.
Over the past 3 weeks the Erskine Bridge has ben closed about 10 times, now call me cynical but in the past 10 years its only been closed about twice due to high winds, but guess what they stopped the toll on it this summer!!
You used to go over it in howling gales before, but in rush hour so many thousands accross at 60p a time added up so never closed!!!!
I had an extra 40 mile journey this week to get from Dumbarton to Greenock usually about 20 mile total. Took an extra 90 mins due to traffic and length of journey!

Yes i get loads, best way to live.

Don’t do any work, have 7 kids, get about £1500 a month in benefits and get a nice 5 bedroom house paid for. Run two cars, go for nice sailing holidays.

BTW, Northern Ireland is outperforming everywhere else in the UK housing market (including London), with prices rising by an average of £600 per week. Average price of property is £190,000 and we have the lowest wages in the UK!
