hi guys~~ pls give me some advices...,,,,,,,

I have C180 , 1996 and recently got a problem about engine...

I had service(check all kinds of oil and value of sensors, also cleaning throttle body and air case & filter).. and he said no problem on the car at all after scanning and checking...

BUT the engine still and suddenly stops ...very quiet
i didn't realise that.
(about 3~4times a week).. when i'm slowing down or waiting for the traffic signal....

the engine doesn't turn on sometimes(only makes sound)... or when the engine is on and i press the brake to change gear, the engine's gone....(twice a week)

what's wrong with my car...
is there some sensors on brake system? and could it make the engine stop?

is it nozzle blocking something on the engine? or immobiliser problem?

my car is perfect when i drive.... but... i don't know why....

pls does anyone help me..?.....

The two most likeley suspects are,
1 Crank position sensor
2 Air flow meter

See if you can swop your air flow meter with a known good one to eliminate this part at least, as this not very expensive to replace if it is faulty.
Faults on the air flow meter do not allways show as a stored code.

Hi Brian Park

Where did you have the car serviced? Was it serviced by a dealer or by an independent or by another garage? Which service did you have? A/B?

If 'locket' is correct, these faults would generate trouble codes which would show up during a service. I am surprised that the service found nothing wrong? From your description you have an intermittent fault which can be difficult to locate.

You say the problem appears when the car is close to idle but it runs OK at all other times. The Mass Air Flow sensor could be faulty but this kind of problem is best left to a dealer or independent specialist to diagnose.

You also say that when the engine stops you sometimes can't get it to run again. You also say the engine won't turn. The problem could be electronic and simple like a dirty or loose contact. Have you checked the battery connections? Have you checked the battery? If you have battery problems you would experience intermittent problems.

Once again, tracking down an intermittent problem is best left to an expert.

REGARDS Phil
