Hello,

I got back from a long trip and my suburban was dead. Like an idiot I hooked jump cables up from my S220 while it wasn't running to the suburban and it fired right up. The next morning I went to drive the mercedes and found that:

Remote doesn't work
Key wont turn in the ignition
No power to any of the accessories, lights etc at all
Needed blade key to get into the trunk

yet the Odometer still read the miles upon opening the door

I've been told this has something to do with a 'main fuse being blown but I'm quite novice and have no idea where to look for the issue or what to buy to replace it with. The car is stuck as I can't even shift it into neutral.

Please help!

did you check if your battery is actually working on the S220 ?
Yes and also the battery is brand spanking new. I had the shop put it in less than 2 mos ago. Also when connected in reverse, that is jumping off the suburban, I get nothing.

I've had the battery die and jumped off the suburban in the past with no issue. The fact that the key wont even turn in the ignition seems to me like there is something else going on than a bad battery since nothing changes even with jumper cables connected to the suburban

is it possible you connected them back to front even for a millisecond ?

this has been done to death on every merc forum that even existed, if you blow the brains out of your car's electrical system they don't like it....
and on the ones with this electrical architecture they are fragile and obstinate to come back to life

No it's not possible. I'm a novice DIY guy but I'm not that slow lol.

that would tend to leave a voltage spike when the other started - that did for your car?

Was the Merc engine running ? various battery control modules that allow the car to do its thing either didn't like it as it was running, or weren't in play as it wasn't running...

basically these w220's are so fragile, its best not to try anything exotic like jump starting / attaching to help anything else / changing or disconnecting the battery without an expert with STAR in hand and a very large wallet

To check the main fuse pull the headlights stalk to flash the lights. No lights = fuse.

Yes and I plead guilty on both charges. I jumped the suburban off the mercedes AND the engine was off. A friend of mine who is good with mechanics said the same thing: voltage spike. However he knows the square root of nothing about European cars.

Some research I did indicated that spike may have fried 'the main fuse: I've seen posts indicating it is near the battery behind the carpeting in the trunk and others indicating it is under the front passenger carpeting. Either way I don't know if that's the issue or what to look for when/if I start tearing the interior apart.

Any thoughts?

Will do! If it turns out to be the issue which fuse is it? Is this the 'main fuse' I saw mentioned? If so, how do I access it and are there any resources you are aware of to assist in replacing it?

Thanks!
