Good evening.
I recentley purchased a GLA 180 petrol 2019 plate.
I find that I get 28-30 MPG, which is awful.
I don't drive above the vehicle's limit.
Is this a common theme with the GLA 180?
Do other people get a low mpg or could it be an issue with the car?
Thanks

Hello and welcome

How are you calculating the figures? The trip computer is only an indication and normally over reads...

It very much depends upon how and where you drive. If you’re doing short journeys and commuting then those figures are probably right.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I Go off the trip. I also do about 30miles about 3 times a week.

Just find myself refueling over and over again. Plus I've driven faster 1.4 engines which go me thinking there was an issue with car.

All online car review sites say average is 40-43mpg, which concerned me as mine is so low

Try resetting the cars mpg trip meter when you are one the motorway and the car is warm when you are doing a steady speed at 70mph . That's what I do with my car every so often just to check they are returning what they should .
At least at a steady 70mph you would expect the car to be near 40's , if it's not I would think there's a problem ?

I’d start writing the mileage on the top of each fuel receipt and use an app or excel to work out the actual economy

Vmax for a GLA180 is 120mph so I’m not surprised your fuel efficiency is a bit low :)

In your last cars did you also get below the mileage? Or have you always got the average and on this car less? It sounds very low to me, if you are doing some long journeys soon you could fill up before and after and drive for example 200 miles 55-65 as economically as possible and without short journeys. Then calculate it and if it's not gone over 40mpg then you definitely have a problem...

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum. It sounds low to me. I’ve just done an 80 mile round trip today in mine (3 litre, twin turbo, petrol, bigger car) and got an indicated 31.0mpg. Your car is new so it should get better over the first 5000 miles and the only other thing I can suggest is to check the tyre pressures. If they are low, that will increase consumption.

28-30 mpg city driving isn't that bad is it? OP doesn't actually say what the driving mix is.

Similar issue with the car my wife drives. 2019 gla 180 urban auto. Full tank, drove to Birmingham and back and to work (20miles round trip) refuel light on and only done 320 miles. 50L tank, lets say it will do another 30miles max.... end up 32mpg. Total mileage 2500. contemplating contacting the lease company and getting it checked by mercedes. My 11 year old 120d auto gives me almost 100 miles more (yes its diesel but its also much older with a bigger and more powerful engine)

Not bad for stop start city driving, but check tyre pressures, that the parking brake is fully off (yes really) and that you haven't got a seized brake caliper (happened to me once on the Qashqai)

Use it for a decent run and see what you get
