We all know batteries don’t last forever and degrade even without using them. So might is more of a when. :)

Think we'll have to agree to disagree, again. ;):)

Still a lot of talk on this "new" technology which actually isn't.

For many weeks even the old leafs poor range might suffice for me, at the moment everything seems to be local.

Perhaps we could have a few.

New Ipaces at £38,000 is a good price but as they are on a go woke go broke mission at the moment will they be here long enough to see out the warranty.

I would still like to bet they aren't losing money on them.

Be outlandish by all means but you have to have one hell of a product to beat the self imposed PR hurdles.

Seems general consensus is for current EV batteries to last around 20 years before the amount of storage degrades to an unacceptable level. Of course, this is supposition as we really don't know what will happen and are being guided by much testing and evaluating by experts in the field. The EV battery can then be repurposed in a house battery situation, being much larger in capacity than a typical battery currently being used for that purpose. Seems EV motors last a looong time. EV's do not have gearboxes needing servicing and/or serious repairs. As a comparison, what expensive components of an ICE car require serious and expensive repairs in that time frame? My 20 year old ML270 was starting to cost me serious money at that age and, although in excellent condition, was worth peanuts on the used car market. My point is any 20 year old car is not going to be worth a lot regardless of being EV or ICE. Meantime, running and servicing costs are a long way ahead with an EV. We will see major improvements with EV's over next few years as the technology matures which will make EV's an even better choice. Only folks that will suffer are vehicle servicing and repair businesses. Bit like coal miners.....times change.

My 25/27yr Volvos genuinely run on fresh air…

Burn no oil, sound tighter than any new car from an any showroom, no rattles, no creaks, even make my 2011 60k w221 question modern quality, and I just had the C70 T5 remapped by TWR due to sheer boredom.

Only repairs in all those years are;

Radiator - £250/£300 on each
Heater matrix - £300
ETM - £400
Expansion tank - approx £100
ABS/Tracs module - £60

Other than that it’s just proper old school servicing, brakes, tyres, fuel…. These and supra will outlast anything!

I bet most people pay more than the above on niggles, break down, repairs….. certainly paid several times the above on the w221 tracing a £20 relay! Had to buy an extra set of brakes as the original MB ones began disintegrating from the moment they were fitted.

Look at all the modern stuff falling to bits always in for diagnostics, repeatedly, niggly repairs etc…..

well i,m 3 years in with our model 3 this coming march , the whole point for us was to see how reliability and lets be honest overall cost, failures , servicing etc comparing to my last car a 2014 e350 compared . so far 4 new pilots 4s mainly because one had a really bad split and one of the others had sidewall damage, so changed them all, 1 drivers side window reg ( tesla did the job on our driveway £160, the carbon fibre rear spoiler split and that was changed under warranty, and thats it, car is 5 years old and still charges to 310 miles so the same as it was new, its still to fast for us , only negative is tesco has now realised one of its fast chargers wasnt taking payment and have now fixed it so no more breakfast at tescos for me!!.

Saw an enormous "fast charging" park at Winchester yesterday, very impressive. Looked like a car park with hundreds of chargers in rows as far as the eye can see. Seems like local councils are getting their act together at last.

I think it’s a private installation, nothing to do with the public sector

Could be, I just drove past, no need to visit with a '63. I suppose the council helped with the planning permission and necessary permits, in what is an extremely sensitive environment, (for those that know Winchester :))

Sort on theme :cool::coffee:

Collected the new EV from Winchester last Weds. On way out came up to the new EV charging park / J9 works. My first thought was given the tree huggers / tunnel diggers / eco warriors when Twyford Down was cut through all those years ago and the constant news coverage; very little is heard of on these 2 current day mahoosive construction projects.

The white chalk does look oddly surreal.

They're doing some massive construction work near the M3 junction 9, I think the idea is to get rid of the A34 roundabout not 100% sure. You're right, there is very little publicity from what I can see, and no protesters as such. Those days seem to be gone.

Yes it is to allow the A34 to merge onto the southbound M3 seamlessly.
Queues can be best part of a mile

Also northbound off slip smoothing with access to Winchester still maintained

The Eco warriers and Swampy (remember him?) haven't put in a show, but they haven't for HS2 either (mores the pity)
