Possible fuel pump fault or filter?

hi
have a 2000 c240 petrol which seems to run sluggish when its going uphill.sometimes at lights seems to want to cut out.when it occurs on the hill it seems to make a dull HUMMING noise from the rear and beneath my feet.this tends to start stop start stop then clears.could this be pump or fuel filter?

I think it will be the MAF,, you could unplug it and try the car
