Hi all,
driving my first Mercedes, E220 CDI elegance (05) now for almost 6 months and I have noticed recently when driving over raised road markings or where a road is uneven, the rear of the car wobble as if the wheel falls either side of the uneven edges? It only comes from the rear and not the front. Is this common or is it a precursor to suspension trouble?

Hi, and welcome to the forum, I'm not an expert and I'm sure someone with a better understanding of these issues will be along shortly, but this sounds to me as if your tyres are starting to wear at the edges.

I've experienced this many times on motorcycles (white lining) and it happens when the circumferential grooves on the tyre lose their sharp edges and cause to wheel to slip or "shimmy" to the lowest point in the road surface.

It can be quite unnerving when on two wheels but I would not worry too much if your four tyres have a well defined tread pattern above 2.5mm in depth.

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
The rear front sub frame mounts can cause this and becoming common now
