Hello All ,
hit a deep pot hole on a right hand bend , now have a vibration when braking.

Replaced the discs but it's still there ( they needed replacing anyway ) .

Run a dial guage on the disc and it is way out of true , maybe 2-3 mils ?

Looks like the wheel hub bent ?? Where might I get one , and is it a big job ??

Cheers Lads !

How do you know that this is not the cause of your trouble?
Potholes are more likely to bend a trackrod than a hub.
I would get it looked at by someone with the knowledge to pinpoint the problem

Going off the disc running about 2-3 ml out of true . Do you know the tolerances
for disc run-out ?

Sorry I do not know the run out data but I would say you can't use it as that good an indicator of damage to the hub.
The disc may be warped a little or not even flat to the hub.
It may not have been mated properly during installation.
Tracking only cost about £30 to be done by someone with a hunter laser machine.
If the steering has had a knock it will be out anyway and will need doing.

Before i went any further with this i'd pop the spare wheel on and see what the car feels like, rule out wheel distortion.

If the disc has run out then tracking, wheel, etc are all irrelevant

I think you'd need to check the runout of the disc alone to remove that as a variable - maybe check both front discs then swop them over & measure again?

It will take a mighty smack to bend a hub but it is possible - I had it on my Triumph

That was my thinking.

Bought and fitted new discs a few weeks back , but before I go further I will check the disc for run out . if the hub is bent, it will have an exaggerated effect at the disc . A few thou out at the hub will be magnified at the disc .
Do you know roughly how thick the hubs are ? I could skim it on the lathe ??

For my money only a few thou , maybe 2 or 3 tops run out in a disc ,, 3ml is waaaaaaay too much !!

Any good breakers ??

As said disc run out could be down to burrs/grit/rust between mounting faces. Dunno what the specific numbers would be for your model but (generalising) typical max disc runout would be 0.1mm (obviously near the OD but within the swept area of the pads). Runout numbers for the hub will obviously be smaller, for w124 era it's 0.03mm axial at the outer flange and 0.05mm radial at the centre register... http://www.w124performance.com/service/w124CD2/Program/Chassis/33-0010.pdf (scroll down, it's towards the end)

Disc warping is almost a myth, usually 'warping' is the result of thickness variation (DTV), new ones should be within 0.01mm
