Good afternoon all.

I had my wheels powder coated roughly a year ago, on the whole very happy with the job.
Upon cleaning today I noticed this on the off side front, I suppose it could of been caused by a stone or any bit of debris.
Just not sure how to treat it to stop it deteriorating further ?

Hi

Hmmm... that's rather unfortunate. Right on the rim, as well.

I'm no expert, but for a temporary fix, I would nibble off the loose bits with a craft knife, and get some wax or sealant in there to protect it, although being on your wheels, it will not last long.

I'm sure a mobile wheel refurbishment chap wouldn't charge very much to flat it back & recoat that small area.

I wonder if you could do as previously suggested and get rid of the loose bits and then apply a clear paint lacquer over it, give a few coats though just to make sure ?

This was going to be my plan of action.
Clean up the area and gradually build up the layers.
I know there is some great knowledge amongst you good people, so just wanted to make sure.

It doesn't look that I can see from the photo, to be the result of any kind of trauma, what is the mottling to the RHS of the loose coating flakes?

I believe I would be inclined to seek some feedback from the powder coaters.

Thanks Gents, good advice as per usual.
I think I will pop back and let them have a quick look , before I start trying to repair it.

How long does the finish last on refurbished wheels? I had mine done - simple, 5 broad spoke 16" wheels, and there were issues with the finish. They did them again, but within a couple of years I had the sort of failures as in the OPs picture and now, another year later, they look generally terrible with the coating loose and breaking up. I paid top price too.

They are called “The Wheel Clinic” in Northampton, I think they also have a branch in Greenford West London.
