loss of power

i have had this problem myself on my sprinter,i have been told by mercs its a fault code that needs clearing on the fuel pressure side, which makes the turbo boost drop by 4 psi. how true this is i:m not sure? would be intrested if you found out it was something different????????? cheers

I'm starting to get the same problem now regularly on my 2003 E220 CDi.
(problem first started 1 year ago)

Been to 2 different garages:

First said there were fault codes relating to the turbo, which they reset.

Second garage said no faults found.

Problem has now happened 3 times in the last week at exactly the same location - A3 coming out of Guildford on the up hill stretch just before joining the A31 in the rush hour at about 40 mph. The fault is triggered when accelerating slowly. (and there is no hard shoulder there !!)

Dashboard does not indicate any fault light or report any malfunctions.

Anyone any further ideas please?

I get the same on my C200 about 20 miles down the road from you (between Alton and Farnham!). Given that it's not geopgraphically related my guess its the MAF sensor.

If I welly it basically the auto box gets its knickers in a twist at high revs and the power from the engine drops off to a 0-60 time of about 25secs and the engine gets lumpy at idle... switch off and it's all cleared...(until the next time)

Anyway to DIY test a MAF sensor?

I wonder if this is also related to occasional poor off the line response, followed by a surge, (no, not turbo lag) and also a puff of black smoke left behind.

Cheers for the response.

Edit: Just read the MAF article on the Ford Scorpio.

A new MAF has been fitted today, few quids change from £400 from an independent. Symptoms; power loss, rough idle from cold start for about 2 minutes then goes back to normal, engine sounds like it's running on 2 or 3 cylinders, sometimes rpm hardly goes up.

Anyway, I'm claiming it from my warranty (warranty direct).

the sprinter has got a recall at present for a wiring rub through on the engine harness which gives the faults you are talking about, NF, faults you are getting are turbo waste gate sticking, common for fault codes to show charge pressure sensor, in fact its where the turbo pressure gets vented, charge pressure sensor detects low pressure feed back and stores this as a faulty sensor, cost MB loads in warranty claims, and of course MAF is a poss but unlikely. hope some help

Thanks all for the replies. Here's what I have done.

I unplugged about 6 different sensor connectors at the front of the engine (The MAF has 2 for starters) - then I replugged them back in.

The car ignition was off BTW -

I figured there might have been some contact resistance, damp or what ever in there. (Actually, the connectors are good quality, they have a rubber insert to keep the damp out).

Since doing this I have not had a single problem in nearly 2 week now, esp since it did it 3 days in a row before I did this.

Before the engine seemed a bit "chuggy" at low revs, now it's much more responsive.

Will let you know of any update.
