Power plant transplant 300TE into a 500SEL

New at this, Is it possible to put a 1990 300TE 6 cyl in a 1984 500sel? both have auto trans and the300 is complete. If not a good idea, then what good advise can I get concerning my failed 500. Timming (possibly tensioner problem) jumped time and bent some valves. I hear this is a common problem. Love the 500, and will be turning the wrenches myself.

Sounds like a scary job, surely the 500 is more than big enough to accomodate the motor, not sure though sounds like a big job and possibly very expensive as a number of components will need to be changed on the 500 to accomodate the motor, such as diffs etc etc...
