Getting ready to change a leaking power steering pump on my W164, but a little confused about the correct power steering fluid to use.

So, what fluid is correct for a 2006 ML500 W164.175? I can find reference to both Mercedes Power Steering Fluid (Amber) or CHF11S (Green)

I will be fitting a new pump and reservoir, and want to flush the entire system.

What does it say in your manual for the spec.

Failing that best bet is your local dealer.

I flushed the PS fluid in my sisters ford galaxy a few months ago. made a huge difference. you can blow on the steering wheel and it turns.

There are lots of vids on you tube for flushing and a relatively easy job with simple tools

Well, this is interesting, but if you take BeVo as authoritative, it works out like this

The owners manual isn't much help, it says the following :

W164 Owners Manual Lubricants.png
BeVo states that passenger vehicles are covered by MB231.1, which says the following :

D7044B5D-D31D-4BE7-8C56-35AC64580580_4_5005_c.jpeg

...and MB236.3 is as follows :

78161BCD-7039-4D04-8BFC-FBC17277FA2C_4_5005_c.jpeg

Which is not CHF11S, that is MB345.0 classed as a hydraulic fluid and NOT as a power steering fluid for W164 unless below -25 degC

So, I shall be using MB236.3 fluid, and in particular Liqui Moly 3100 which is MB approved

Put your reg into opie oils . It'll show you which .

I cant see green fluid turning red , or red fluid turning green tbh.

Well, the new pump arrived today, and in the box was some guidance on fluid.
