Very growly noise from the power steering on this fine car. Is it the pump? Can they be refurbished? Might it be a bearing in the pump. The fluid level is fine.
Any help?

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's the steering. Might it be the rack? Noisier when I turn so not alternator I don't think.
Thanks for your response.

Good man. I have very limited knowledge but I'm thinking rack or power steering pump. Or, after reading on here, is it electric?
Garage to day I imagine but no rush as I will not really be needing it for a couple of weeks.

Good result, but on a sealed system where has the fuild gone????

Interesting thread. I'm thinking that fluid on the ground could be from the power steering.
Handbook gives no info whatsoever as regards reservoir, type of fluid, or level.

I've assumed its the can shape part on the right of the engine front area and with a rubber screw cap to a larger steel cap. If this is the part, the level appears to be about one inch from below the cap. I did not remove the cap as didn't have any cloth to clean first so didn't want ingress etc.

What fluid is used and how high the level - anyone know? Mechie to look at car next Friday but won't leave a top up until then if necessary. He can then try and find leak.

Thanks

I had a similar problem, which turned out to be a small leak in one of the pipes. Now sorted, and a lot cheaper than a new pump.
