Hi All,

I am new to this forum and have bought a MB for the first time a few months back - so I may not be doing it correct and sound silly - apologies.

I have a C200K W204 on 1.8l on a 07 plate. A few days back I got the error message saying Pre-Safe inoperative and Front Right Side SRS System Inoperative.

Can someone tell me what this is so when I take to a garage I know what they are talking about and any idea of how much we would be looking at in terms of £££?

I have booked it for a B service next week, which is due already. I just want to know a bit about it so I know what is going on.

Hi and welcome

It is hard to say what is wrong with the car as there is several components that could be causing the fault.

First port of call would be to get a star test done and the fault codes read this will then give you a better idea of what is going on.

When you are having it serviced is this done buy a merc dealer or specialist as they should have a star machine.

Personally i would try and go to a specialist to avoid getting ripped off

Hi Willow 132,

Thanks for the quick response. I am having it done in south london by a local independent specialist (found him through the forum) so hopefully he should have a star machine. Hopefully everything should come out but I just don't know much about these things and don't want to feel like a novice when they speak to me!

I have read somewhere else on the forums that 99% of these issues are usually due to faulty integrated seat belt - not sure how true this is though!

Just an update for future - Finally took it to James Leigh. Got a good service from him - happy:).

regarding the error messages and SRS issue, he changed the seat belt buckle which was faulty, probably because of a wiring issue. cost around £40 plus labour so it was all good! It has been 2 weeks now and no problems at all!
