Hi,

I'm selling (or exchanging) my Mercedes W202 2000(X) C220 CDi Classic Estate. It's a tip auto with FSH, excellent condition and most of the usual bells and whistles. 91,600 miles with MOT until April 2008. Just had major service at Merc specialist. Downside (to some, not me) is that it has cloth and steel wheels. I started advertising it on various sites (inc Pistonheads) at £5,900 (optimistic I know). However, over the last 3 weeks I've reduced the price to £5,250 and have had one note of interest but with no follow up. What to do next ? What is a reasonable private deal price ? Should I just part-exchange it with a dealer for the Smart Roadster I want ? (Lucky to get £4,000 part exchange I believe).

Grateful for any advice. Kevin

Best thing to do is to go to Glass's Guide website, type in all the details of the car and for a mere £3 they will give you a full valuation including trade and part ex prices, private sale price, dealer price etc. i found it very useful first to get realstic about what its worth and secondly to show potentila buyers to help you get a fair price. Here's the link: -
http://www.glass.co.uk

But you can also get a far less detailed basic part ex price, a basic check with Glass's, for free via Vauxhall's website http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/finance/valueyourcar.do

You probably won't like what it says. It shows a 2000 C220cdi Classic estate Auto with 92k miles, on an X plate, as £3,300 to £3,700 as a part ex price. BUT that is a lot more than most makes would be worth coming up to the end year, at nearly 8 years old, and with a hatful of miles on them. Good luck.
Have you tried Autotrader? Or ebay?

Thanks for the advice. I've not tried Autotrader or ebay yet. A downward price revision is required I think if I'm going to shift the car.

Parkers say it's worth this-much

That's for 60k = average miles. Deduct £50 per thousand miles over 60k and that's your valuation. I would think £4,500 should see more interest shown and if you ended up getting £4,250, would that be so bad?

I would try autotrader. Take lots of pictures and play up the fact that it's an diesel estate/workhorse.
