I see on my retention certificate that you can now keep the number on retention for ten years now. It used to be two as far as I remember :)

The stutter was the difference between an affordable plate and a plate the price of a small house lol

I bought my son Conor a registration number when he was 10 yrs old. To keep it warm I put it on an old Mini. The number is C4NOR

Checking with one of the cherished number sellers, they are offering C10 NOR for £36,425.

I may have made a wise investment.

Because he & his fiancee share a car, he hasn't put it on their Merc, its on retention.

The old car had a plate with my initials:

But when I sold it, the reg went with it, as I didn't think it warranted £80 expense to keep.
Wanted something far less serious, then a certain referendum results came through, so:

Years ago, I did have a birthday date number plate ... but since it wasn't my birthday, it didn't feel particularly special ha-hao_O

I got a BBZ car new in May 1988...not sure MBZ would have been out only 2 years later in 1990...probably '95.

I've always been known by my friends as Mow, the first 3 letters of my surname so I have those digits on my plate. I have F14MOW on my SL55 which was on the SLR and I've just bought 14MOW.

The number 14 seems to follow me around a bit. When I played football I wore the number 14 shirt mainly because as a winger/striker all the other players wanted 9,10 or 11. When I raced karts the first number I was given at the club meet was number 14 and then I had that all the way through and when I went on to race cars I mainly raced with the number 14.

My first house was number 14, the unit of the workshop is number 14 and my son was born on the 14th!

Basically its a bit of fun, number plates are good investments too, a bit like premium bonds they are always worth something and it takes the age off the vehicle too.
