Hi all, hoping you can help.

My C220 2002 model, has recently been keeping in the same gear, when I get to a certain speed, from start to about 30-35mph, the gears change fine, then when I put my foot down on accelerator, to the floor "pedal to the metal", nothing happens, doesn't change gear, just slowly increases speed with no gear change. When you put your foot to the floor you expect the auto to change down gear to attempt to reach the speed you require, but nothing.

There is no indication on the dash to suggest it is in limo mode.. When in limp mode does a light come up on dash? There are no other warning lights?

Could my trans fluid be low? I have also read MAF could be the culprit. Is there anything else it could be? As I say, it does not say its in limp mode.

Also, couple weeks back, the gar wouldn't come out of 2nd gear, it just kept revving the faster I wanted to go. I stopped turned car off, then restarted and its been fine since.

Only prob now is the not changing down gears to accelerate successfully.

Many thanks for your help if you can!

I had a similar sort of thing, with my c220 ( though a Manual, so not sure if this applies)...But I had a vacuum leak, which caused poor acceleration.

You can see the grey tape, I used to patch over the split in the rubber pipe next to the oil filter housing.

Once I found and fixed this, the car was driving great again.

Ideally you need to get it to a specialist who has STAR diagnosis, no doubt there will be a fault code stored or if there isnt, a function on STAR allows you to look at all the various sensors and values to see which isnt performing properly.

The above pic is one of many parts that can cause the fault you describe.

Ideally it should be an indie with STAR, the Mercedes test set.

If it was the MAF the engine power would be down, and the gearbox would get confused and just lock up in second

Well it did start out as it getting locked in 2nd gear, and turning off the car and starting again was fine.

However, that problem doesn't happen any more, and its now the problem I described above where it just stays in 4th gear without changing down no matter how hard you press the gas.

So, is there no scanner I can buy myself out there for myself?? OBD scanner, is my car not compliant with any other than star???

Many thanks

There are some but the danger is we may not recognize the codes they read out

Could you advise of any, as I could always google the codes I get or speak to a mechanic at that point.

Generic code readers tend to just read engine codes. You need something more 'professional' to read fault codes from other bits of the car.

Sadly as I have STAR I have never followed any other code readers
