Hi, can anyone shed some light, i pulled into petrol station today and when i got back in the car the car unlocked put the key wouldnt start the car, i had to wait over an hour for my partner to come with a spare key and it worked so its obviously a problem with the key however its unlocking and locking the car, as the car is under warranty i rang them and they said that keys are not covered in the warranty which i find very funny, a car doesnt function without a key so why should it be excluded from the warranty package, anyone cutting the story short they want 205 plus vat for a new key. I asked if they could test it before as its functioning in other areas and they said i would have to pay 95plus vat for the test. Where is the battery in the key fob i cant seem to find where the battery is? Would the car still unlock and lock if the battery wasnt very good or do i definite need to replace. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

The battery is only for the remote locking/unlocking function, the key should still start the car even with the battery removed.

Thats a bit shoddy, as the car is till under warranty I thought they would replace it out of goodwill, lts face it, the key won't be costing them that much.

I would write to MB UK and see what they can do. It seems the dealer is being less than helpful.

Your welcome, it might be worth getting a 2nd quote for a new key from another MB dealer......£205 sounds a lot, some have mentioned £150'ish as being the norm.

I paid £148 (inc VAT) for a very nice heavy chrome one a couple of months ago - very "bling".
