Mercedes E220 CDi W210 Facelift
Hi all,

I haven't posted much on this forum but have been lurking in the background quietly before making the move to Mercedes. Well I say move to Mercedes but move back to Mercedes!

I have recently purchased an E220 CDi Mercedes in the Mauve/Purple Colour

Problems I need to sort are as follows -

Running hot and may well overheat but there aren't any roads near me where I can get to 70mph for a lengthy period of time but as soon as I shot up to 70mph it did get very hot and rose above 80 degrees to the next notch.

Second is driving tonight the battery/alternator light came on and I lost power steering!? I have only had the car two days but it has been sitting for about 2/3 months so any ideas here?

Lastly.....Interior fan.....nothing.....now I know this is a common problem but any how2 guides or pointers anyone can give me?

And then there is of course the minor rust areas that need sorting (I must add this car is by no means as bad as some I have seen of this age!!)

Really do appreciate the help :)

Thanks,

James

I thought the normal operating temperature is 90 degrees. Was on my C220cdi and the same on my E250cdi.

Ok forgive me, I am incorrect when I say 80 degrees but it is right up to the notch, one below the top of the scale!

This is a picture of the temp guage once I'd come to a halt but it was right up to the notch when I was driving...obviously couldn't take a picture whilst I was driving!

and here is the battery/alternator message I received...

The thermostat will need looking at if the temperature rises above 90 when warmed-up in any conditions. Similarly if the gauge reads constantly below 90.

temp is ok, you may have 92deg stat.

Check the charge voltage, alternator/voltage regulator is failing if belt/tensioner/pulley/free clutch ok.

thank you was a little worried as my friends e320 cdi (yes know its a different engine) his stays between the second notch and the half way mark......whether its hot or cold outside....so when I saw that in the picture I thought oh crikey!! and it does go up to that third notch! :S

Definitely ok then?

What do you think could be the cause of that alternator/battery message coming up because everything still works bar the power steering for some odd reason.....turn the car off and it starts straight up again!? Power steering was working fine this morning....

Check the battery voltage off/running ASAP. Low voltage cause all kind of gremlins.

Under 80 line temp is a faulty stat :p

Ok, whilst on my hunt through Google I came across another thread on here where another guy had a similar problem......turned out that on his it was the Poly belt...so I went to investigate on mine....there is no belt on mine either!! Which explains as to why it is running hot, the power steering has all but gone and the battery/alternator is coming on...

So can anyone help me with finding a new belt and are there any how2 guides at all?

Thank you :)
