Hello,

I have a problem with transmission. When I go forward, the car is OK. If I use the reverse then forward, the car gets stuck in low gear, constantly. To overcome this, I have to stop and turn the engine off for a few minutes. I turn the engine on and go forward, and the gears then change fine.

Do I have to change the oil for transmission?
As the car has done 72000 miles.
Or is the problem that the whole gearbox needs changing?

Also to note, I've had a diagnostic test:
P0100 hotfilm mass airflow sensor B39.
P1403 exhaust gas recirculation HFM - SFI controlled

Thank you

This is nothing to do with the actual box :D it is a shift ECU error of a poor connection with the CAN connectors on the box ECU

Thanks Malcolm, is it something I could do or a professional needs to do?

I was told, in fact, there might be a poor connection somewhere, but they were asking for two hours labour charge to find where it might be.

I would disconnect the multi plug from the box ECU, get a can of non drying switch cleaner from Maplins and spray the plug and socket well, do the same on the gear box end where the plugs goes into the plug on the side of the box. Only do that screw up to 7Nm

Excellent, I will try to find where the ECU is.
So I have to unplug both side of the cable from ECU and the gearbox. Having done the spray I have then got to tighten up the pilot plug screw up to 7 newton metre?

Thanks a lot

The nut that the screw goes into is only captive in a plastic frame and easily broken.

If you find the box is leaking fluid from this plug, you can get a modified seal now for £30 and worth doing while you are under there, its on the drivers side

Thank you Malcolm, I will try to see to it tomorrow, if I can. I will let you know if that is ok?
