Gents,
2002 c class sports 220d coupe
Hope you can help
I've been having spurious readings all on a level surface. oil level ok,
requires 1 litre, requires 1.5 litres back to ok all over 1 week period.

The dealer has confirmed the level is just below full so no panic but did
not immediately say the sensor is faulty, but quoted £180 for a
replacement unit anyway
I understand the importance of oil being at the correct level but
wonder with no testing of the instrument how can they say its faulty,
or are the spurious readings enough to confirm

I would appreciate your comments gents, and don't you think no
manual dipstick is appaling

Yes I hate having no dip stick,, the sensor is easy to change and I can give some info on it later.

I have known people sell their car as they cant trust it

You'll almost certainly have a blanked off dip stick tube under the bonnet.
A cheaper (and more reliable) option would be to obtain a manual dip stick.
Make sure you get the right length one since they do vary within the same engine.
(I tried one from a mate's scrapped 220cdi Vito and it read completely wrong in my c220cdi coupe)

for Television re oil sensor/dipstick

Television,
Thanks for your parts list & drawing still can't find the sensor
looking underneath the car at the sump area as per your dwg.
looking for the electrical connection but can't find it.
The link to the parts supplier does not show any image of the
sensor
i would be grateful for any more advise
