Can anyone help me please? I have a E320cdi Estate on a Y plate. The battery had to be exchanged a couple of weeks ago (no problem with that) but since then I have had a problem with the electric windows.

They roll down smoothly enough, but when you push the button to lift them they only move about 1 cm and you have to keep pushing the button to get the windows to shut completely.

Has this anything to do with changing the battery?

Will disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cure the problem? I cant see that both window motors would fail in such a way at the same time, so I think it is an electrical problem.

I look forward to any replies:)

The windows need to be reset after a battery replacement. IIRC turn the ignition to pos 2 then press and hold the window button until the window is fully open. Then press and hold the window button until the window is fully closed.

Just adding you must hold the button up for 10 sec min while in Key 2 after they have closed.

Hmmm, This now has me wondering. My car also has the engine fan running constantly fromthe moment you turn the ignition on. ANd I have changed all the sensors (thermostat, coolant low level, coolant temp - none without success) It also leaves the low coolant level light on also.
Is the climate control the unit on the nearside passenger well with the black box with 2 looms going into it. THe carpet and metal panel has to be removed to gain access to it.

Had the same problem. Mechanic at MB dealer said, first run the engine and leave it running so you reset with full normal running voltage. Now, two positions on window switch. One is auto and sends window all the way down. Don't use that one. Use the position that lowers till you let go of switch. Take window right down and hold for two seconds. If quiet, you will hear click of relay. Then raise window right to the top -again using the position that stops when you let go. Hold two seconds. You may hear the relay click. Now it is reset. It worked for me.
If problem persists there is resistance somewhere probably in the track.

Love this forum for sorting problems. This worked for me to reset the auto open, auto-close with my electric windows after a battery change.

Thanks all.
