I bought my merc about three months ago it has been a bit sloppy since i got it
i dont think it is going as fast as it should is it worth putting a turbo kit in?
the performance is also a bit on the rocks are there any small basic changes i can make to improve it?

its worth changing it for a 320 (cdi or otherwise).
The 240 isn't quick, it wasn't when it was new. Its a refined long distance cruiser. I can't see any mods being cost viable.

Sad but true. It is worth making sure your car is running correctly, but the 240 was never a quick car, so it may just be that which you are noticing.

As for jberks, modification would not be cheap and I am sure we would have read on the forum if anyone had produced a silver bullet for this particular situation.

A 320 CDI, or a chipped 270, would be a different story altogether. And more economical too.

Hi,
The 240 is no earth scortcher, might be better to just enjoy it for what it is, as jb says tuning would be very expensive. MB uprated the engine to 2.6 as soon as they could, which bearing in mind the power to weight ratio was deemed more acceptable.

The 320 petrol or diesel provides adequate power for the handling of the car and the CDi engine is very impressive. If you are disappointed with the power might be better to change sooner than later. The 3.2CDi straight six I'm running is as responsive as the petrol and the mid range torque is stunning.

My E240 aint that quick either but as JB said
Its a refined long distance cruiser.
Get it up to 75/80 whip on the cruise control & sit back & enjoy the ride !!!!!!

having said all that I did find an awful lot of "Slack" in my Throttle cable Tightened it up & it's a wee bit quicker off the mark now than it used to be
