OP would probably get less use from a soft top than a hard top as one would likely be more reluctant to use in bad weather. Well mine stays in the cosy garage when its wet outside.

Well mine is my only car so it does get used in all weathers and so far it hasn't dissolved, the roof doesn't leak and the front wings haven't turned to rust. :)

Hey @Sasha94 just reading this, you're selling up... Kinda gutted but I can understand why! Enjoy the time you have left with it... Because it might even make you rethink that decision lol.
Not quite yet, but it’s certainly been a consideration. I feel the car is as good as I can get it and it was always the plan to keep it a couple or three years at most, hopefully getting back what I paid. Values are still buoyant, I bought the car keenly and I am hoping to get similar money, bearing in mind what has been spent so far. I may change my mind, but right now I’m at the point of thinking that the car would be better off somewhere it’s either used, or shielded away. Parking on a street is leaving it covered in grit and detritus from passing buses etc. I don’t care if the Skoda gets covered in muck because that’s an appliance, but the Merc is a little more special, but these days, the enjoyment from driving it is balanced by the feeling that it should be out more often. There’s time to reasses the situation yet though, and as I say, if nobody offers what I consider to be reasonable it’ll be going nowhere.

Hi Sasha, I still lurk around here now and again, I understand what you mean when you say you've come to the end of your journey with the CLK. I may be a little biased given my current car but this suggestion is actually based on the fact that any SL is going to be a lot of money to have sitting around for occasional use. So as and when the time comes that you put the CLk up for sale perhaps consider something like this, or perhaps a 3.0 petrol quattro if you can find one as they still have a little poke but there don't seem to be that many about.

That’d make some sense as a replacement, but not an A4; no reason other than I’ve already had one. And very nice they are, still very modern looking, as is the CLK, and should someone have some cash and such a car (or CLK/3 series/C70 (also had one of them)/9-3 (would really like one of them!)) they wanted to chuck into the deal, I should be quite happy to consider taking it off their hands :)

I wouldn’t mind a not so special car being sat outside, and I do like a convertible car. You’d never have me down as a poser obviously :p

9-3 (would really like one of them!)
You'll be very disappointed in them... Especially in convertible form.
Most disappointing car I've had (even after 250hp remap).
Very quiet (aside from the fact it has more rattles than a babies pram) and quite comfortable but iffy handling and redefines the term 'torque steer'. Annoyingly unreliable too.

CLK320/430/500 or E46 330 convertibles are also good cars that can be had for not a lot of money, though CLK's of a certain vintage suffer with rust as you know. The C70 in T5 guise is quite a quick car but not the prettiest cabrio you'll see and as LK said the 9-3 isn't likely to stand the hairs on the back of your neck on end. My pick would be the E46 if you don't want an A4, lacks the power of your CLK but a BMW straight six does have a nice soundtrack and they still look a nice car. :)

Right, no one offer Sasha good money for her CLK . Glad to hear this... However if you did sell up, I'd thoroughly recommend an E46, either 325i or 330i Convertible, very good cars, reliable long as some preventative maintenance is carried out too, cooling system is worth renewal unless bills show it's all been done.

If I didn't have my W202 I'd most probably have a 330i or 330d convertible as they're perfect every day cars and still special in good weather... Not to mention they handle very well despite the additional weight.

I don’t know why I want a 9-3, I just do. When I bought the Audi, it was a toss up between that and a 9-3 Aero. The Audi was just that bit of a cleaner example and £300 less so I had that instead. An E46 330i could be a contender but in reality it’d be better to do a straight sale as one of the reasons I am considering selling is to pay off some of the Skoda as we gear up for a considerably bigger Mortgage soon!! I wanted to invest a few ££ in the Merc in the hope of losing little to nothing in terms of value and it would be sold when we looked at a bigger house. That’s all moved forward, so the sale of the CLK may have to as well. Got plenty to write up in the next few months before it goes for sale though :)

I don't know about any one else on the forum Sasha, but my experience of borrowing a Saab 9-3 wasn't brilliant. I'm honestly rarely a spirited driver except now and then on Epping roads in the dead of night or on the motorway when I'm pressing on... With that in mind I found the Saab 9-3 convertible chassis unsuited to convertible line of work... Just felt a tad flimsy which I never feel in a Saab saloon. The one I drove was the 2.3t version so it had more than plenty of power!

I do however see why you want one, they're not common and if you're just after a cruiser mate then it'll be more than up for the job. Try driving one first though as with anything tastes are different.

With buying a bigger house I hear you, we were going to move but have decided to do it up instead as won't get anything as big as this for the same £'s...!

I am glad it's not anytime soon though!

In a 9-3 it must have been a 2.0t as the never fitted the 2.3. They did for a 2.8 V6 which goes like stink but the chassis just can't cope.

I had a 9-5 Griffin 3-0 ltr which i loved very fast comfortable car. years ago I had 900 turbo also a great car but that model suffered turbo lag. I can't complain about Saab's I do think it's a shame they are no longer in production.

The saloons have immense rigidity when it comes to the chassis, having driven a tuned carlsson & a aero hot, they're superb cars... Just didn't like the chassis of the convertible unfortunately.

My parents had a 9000 Carlsson, a very rapid motor

Real Saabs were brilliant, I had a 900 and it was a fantastic car in every way. Then about 10 years ago, I bought a 93 Aero, the GM model and quite frankly it was crap, uncomfortable, the build quality was poor (plastics deteriorating when it was only 3 yrs old). I'd have a pre-GM Saab any time.

Has it really been this long without an update? I’m sorry I’ve been so busy! I still have the CLK however I have now written an advert and it will shortly be going for sale. It went for an MoT earlier in the week and the dreaded SRS light lit up on the way to the test centre (typical) so the garage put it through an MoT anyway which it duly failed (I’m annoyed about that as I didn’t want it to fail the MoT just before a sale as it doesn’t smack of a well maintained car but it was just one of those things) however the upside of this is that the light is now off and off for good as it has been repaired in such a way that it won’t show me anymore problems again rather than using a cheap emulator kit. I have just collected some genuine rear brake pads to replace the ones on the car as they were picked up as an advisory and I have a new set of plates bearing the original registration ready for sale. I still love the car and I’ve really enjoyed owning it and the sensation of the epic acceleration and the sublime V8 roar will stay with me for a very long while indeed, however it is time to give someone else a go, providing the price is right of course. If it doesn’t sell I’ll just keep it another year. I just feel bad that I don’t use it is all, it’s only done 2500 or so miles in the last 13 months and I’ve done nearly 15,000 in the Skoda in the last 6 months which makes me feel bad and that is the only reason I’m selling up. I’ll get some new pics up soon and a for sale ad here before it hits general sale in case a member wants it and in that case I may be a little more generous as I’d like it to go to a good home.

The ‘staying totally standard’ Skoda has changed rather more than expected in the last 6 months however...

Welcome back Sasha
Nice update albeit sad you might be giving up that passion- everyone in here has seen how much you’ve put into it so hopefully someone here is looking for such a car- they will fully understand the MOT ‘issue’
Good luck...that Skoda looks strangely nice

Thanks. Was pretty annoyed about it at the time but what can you do, the light came on literally 30 meters from the test centre. It had been off for a few months prior to that but it is at least fixed properly now and it won’t come on again. That’s one big CLK foible sorted and not something I or the next owner should ever need to worry about again. Bonus, the belt butler works properly as well now :)

Nothing strange about finding the Skoda nice. It is, despite its devil juice engine a very nice car. It sounds like a cement mixer full of ball bearings but after some mammoth compatibility issues with some of the retrofits that I’ve done I’ve really grown to like the car for daily driving. Now it has a stereo that supports Apple CarPlay and has a proper sized screen (5.8 inches was too small so I retrofitted an 8 inch one) I’m very happy :D

If you're still after a Saab convertible, a friend is selling his late father's.

It was of no interest to me, so I can't recall the details accurately. I think that it was low mileage, probably 1 owner, black, residing in Cumbria.
I can get the details, just ask.
