Hi all
just thought I would post to let you know that despite the problems which many have faced regarding build quality and reaction to it from MB dealers, I recieved a quick and efficient response from my local MB dealership after I enquired about corrosion issues on my 1999 c200 esprit.
I bought my "immaculate" car just before Christmas, but after reading up on these forums about corrosion which hides away under the door seals etc, had a closer look and indeed found similar problems.
I have a full MB history although the car had not been serviced at all during 2005 with 1000 miles still left on the ASSYST system until the next one.
I booked it into the dealer to show them the problems, the bodywork manager came and had a look, (couldn't see the problems initially until I pointed them out). The car was booked in 2 weeks later and in the interim period I recieved confirmation that MB were going to do all of the issues under a goodwill arrangement. The work I had done was all 4 doors, at the top and bottom, both sills, all 4 wheel arches and one of the door pillars and both wing mirror mounts. MB had my car in the body shop for 2 weeks, lent me a VW polo for the duration and returned the car with a full valet. The finish is very good indeed and you cant see where the work was blended into the panels, I think that they might have repainted all round up to the trim but cant be sure.
Anyway. what can I say apart from although there has been plenty of negative press on the forums for the way things are going in the dealerships, I have recieved excellent service which has made me feel glad to have bought a Mercedes.
Thanks

In many respects it would not look good to park a rusty newish MB in Tesco's car park, Its something one hardly ever see's these days.

well, to tell you the truth, it certainly wasnt obvious that the car had any problems until you started peeling back the seals

Looks good, but then it should really. I was looking at my Dad's '96 C the other day, not a mark on it.
On the subject of the dealer, I too have never had an argument regarding the paintwork. I always figured that its in their interests to get the work approved. After all, they get the job and MB pay the bill. The delays seem random but often related to how stroppy you get. I've had them approve after a few days and then again had to wait months. On one occasion, after calling and being told it was on the system and going through, I called back a few months later to chase it. This time they had no record but said to bring it in 2 weeks anyway. They did the work so I can only assume there is a fasttrack when they want one.
The only downside is that last time, they lent me a top of the line W211. They clearly knew what they were doing as you can see from my photo!
