also, i have a slight problem with starting. it takes a good ten turns to fire up (just holding the key), doesnt make a diffrence if its cold or hot, still takes ages. if i hold my foot down slightly on accelerator pedal it starts better.

has anyone had this and knows what it might be?

3.2 24v engine. thanks

Sounds like fuel not being present. It's either draining back to the tank, or possibly a loose joint, allowing air in (but not fuel out). I had similar symptoms with a lexus - this turned out to be fuel (via a duff fuel ECU though)

The fuel pump is energised when you turn the key, so I do not think that it would be a fuel problem. if you turned on ign and waited 1 min and then it started the yes it could be a fuel problem, but as it needs more cold that hot, I do not think it is a fuel problem.
Maybe the crankshaft sensor is lazy or an ign problem.

I had a similar problem when I was replacing the loom, the reason was that I forgot to connect one of the connectors.

I would clean all the connectors associated with anything involved in running the engine.
