E230 Estate 1997 P reg in Silver & Navy Chrylser PT Cruiser with all the chrome
Hi all.

I have just fitted a new rad to my wifes PT Cruiser. I have never done it before and am not sure of the correct fluids to put in. It has an expansion tank that says specialised coolant only so I presume thats the anti freeze. How much water do I put in and roughly how much anti freeze. Do I need to run the engine for a while and then top up ???

Looking for advise..Cheers

usually 50%antifreeze 50% water. make sure you read the bottles though. some places are now selling antifreeze like screenwash ie ready diluted. check all hoses to see if there are any bleed screws to allow air to escape. if there is, fill till water comes out, ie no air pockets and tighten bleed screws BEFORE you start the engine. if you dont do it this way you will end up probably blowing the head gasket. ive seen it many times on peugeots etc! if theres no bleed screws like on a ford or a merc (or i havent found 1 on a merc yet!) just fill, start and leave running with the cap off!. keep topping up as the level drops. when heater is hot and radiator is hot, its bled and all should be ok. allow to cool and top up if required. i would also say that i usually rev the car slightly to get the electric fan to cut in (if not fitted with viscous fan) just to make sure it works!

Maybe best to email Chrysler, or the local dealer, as to the type of antifreeze, as there are 2-3 types, I think
